Struggle as opportunity: making sense of U.S. migration experiences through Buddhist practice

Recent scholarship demonstrates how immigrants rely on religion for resources and psychological and social support at various stages of migration. Many studies of religion focus on the institutional role of faith-based organisations, with little regard for the social importance of religious experiences in daily life. Using interviews with U.S. immigrants who identify as Buddhists, I examine how migrants use Buddhist philosophies as a lens for finding meaning in the struggles associated with migration, including language acquisition, employment, and legal status. Through their practice, migrants gain a sense of agency amid vulnerable circumstances. I also explore the potentially negative consequences of the practice’s individual focus, including the propensity to mask structural causes of inequality and impede possibilities for collective action.     

浅谈如何运用英语语言环境优化英语课堂教学

本文首先阐述了营造英语语言环境的重要性及意义,并基于学生英语学习具体情况的分析,提出了在英语课堂教学过程中营造良好语言环境的方法,及师生如何合理创设并运用这一英语语言环境来优化英语课堂教学,从而能引起教师和学生对英语语言环境的关注。

Communications around the world becomes common with the quickening of China’s reform and open door policies and widening of international communications,thus it is very pressing to modify the model of high school English class for students’concept of English use as a tool.This paper focuses on the change of English class teaching model in high schools under the direction of New English Curriculum Standard and its purposes and effects.     

Contrast of Compliments Between Chinese and English（英文）

Compliments and their responses are special speech actions which are broadly used in interpersonal communications.And how to give compliments and respond to them constitute a significant part of the communicative competence of every member in a speech community.Complimenting is a particularly suitable speech action to investigate in comparative studies,for it acts as a window through which we can view what is valued by a particular culture.This essay mainly analyzes and researches the differences between Chinese and English compliments,attempting to reveal the contrast between Chinese and English compliments in the aspects of expression,topics and lexical formulas.The comparative study may contribute to understand more about Chinese and English compliment cultures,and furthermore,promote the study of pragmatics and the development of intercultural communication effectively.     

The white native speaker and inequality regimes in the private English language school

Private English language schools market the language as a tool that helps one connect with others from different cultures. Despite their promotion of English aiding in intercultural communication, these institutions may believe that only the white native speaker is the ideal teacher of the language. This valuing of the white native speaker can consequently act as an organisational inequality regime that marginalises nonwhite teachers. Using qualitative interviews with 10 nonwhite instructors working in schools in Toronto, Canada, this article investigates the ways in which these teachers experience the inequality regime of the white native speaker at work. The findings indicate that the teachers experience this inequality regime as a series of microaggressions that involve space, competence and customer desire. The article concludes with suggestions to dismantle inequality regimes in private institutions.     

外语课堂教学多模态语料库MCCT的创建

教育信息化2.0时代，利用多模态语料库语言学方法，通过语料库建设及其数据挖掘进行教学音视频流反思，已成为课堂教学和教师发展研究的重要手段。在遵循语料库建设基本原则基础上，聚焦“教师自身发展”专门用途外语课堂教学多模态语料库MCCT的创建，强调建库目的。与此同时，介绍建库过程，概述文字转写、语料切分与标注等具体做法，总结深加工后MCCT特点及其应用开发。目的是为高校教师利用多模态语料库方法进行教学、科研和自身发展提供理念思路、技术参考和典型样例。     

中医药国际传播中英译问题及对策

论文在阐述中医药国际传播重要性的基础上,分析了作为中医药国际传播重要途径的中医药英译的障碍及存在的问题,并有针对性地提出解决问题和排除障碍的对策,以期给中医药英译者提供借鉴并对解决中医药国际传播过程中的英译问题起到一定的促进作用。     

日本漫画翻译技法初探——以特殊表记为中心

如所周知，特殊表记如今已经成为漫画不可或缺的部分。在创作漫画时加入英文表记和外来语表记能够丰富故事内容，使人物形象更为丰满，同时适当使用这些表记能够使漫画更加贴近年轻受众群体。但是在实际翻译漫画时，这些特殊的表记却极易被漫画的译者所忽视。通过从人物对白、特殊用语以及人名三方面入手，从实用角度结合具体案例探讨了日本漫画中英文表记、外来语表记的处理策略，认为应根据特殊表记出现的位置及作用来具体选择翻译方式，不应一概而论。
